A fresh workshop at Artemocion  : Indian Bharatanatyam Dance by Ruta Kambli , who is coming all the way from India to give a workshop exclusivley at the Artemocion Dance studio .  Ruta Kambli will be visiting Malta on the 14th April 2011- This is one time opportunity to learn proper Indian dance . Ruta Kambli will be teaching Bharatanatyam dance technique and a choreography , the choreography will also be featured in the Artemocion summer shows so this is a great chance to perform with the Artemocion Dancers in shows and television .

Artemocion has already pioneered in other dance styles in Malta such as Belly Dance, when Corinne Turner brought this dance style in Malta after her return from Tunisia in 2002. Now we are taking a step further in the appreciation and learning of Eastern dances ..Bharatnatyam is not only a dance but it also incorporates ritual poses and elements in fact a good number of ancient sculptures in India actually portrayed Bharata Natyam poses.In Hindu religion and cuklture it is also said that Bharatnatyam is performed by the dieties.  Like other Indian dances, the style is associated with an Element , in the case of Bharata Natyam , the element is Fire  . The dancer is supposed move like a burning flame . In traditional Hindu Culture , Bharatanatyam was only perfromed by women since it was believed that only women can achieve excellency in this dance, however at Artemocion we favor equality and we invite all the dancers in Malta to attend to this wonderful workshop which will give them also the opportunity to perform with the Artemocion dance troupe in our Spring and Summer shows !

The 2011 : the first semester !

THE NEW BELLY DANCING COURSES – by Artemocion Belly Dance – Choreography and direction of Corinne Turner

In Mellieha:

Advanced students – Choreography class including props

For this class you need to have completed the Beginner level and at least 2 intermediate courses. Zills and Cane are needed for some choreographies, you can bring your own or you can purchase them from the Artemocion studio.

Day: Monday

Time: 5.45pm

Fee: 5 euro per lesson , no need to pay in advance, pay per lesson for one hour.

In Swieqi:

 Intermediate class (1) – Arabic Cabaret style Belly Dance & Use of Veil

A course that gives further technique lesson on Classical Egyptian style and the use of veil and

 in the final 4 lessons we also learn a choreography (using the veil ) which will be used in shows 

 with Artemocion.

Day : Tuesday

Time: 8pm

Fee: 65 euros for 10 sessions of one hour each

 

In San Gwann:

For Beginners – Classical Egyptian 1

A course which introduces the students to the art of belly dance by giving them

Belly Dance is a great way to keep fit too

 a solid basis of the core Classical Egyptian movements.

Day : Thursday

Time : 6pm

Fee: 65 euro for 10 sessions of one hour each

Fees: Mellieha , Private lesson for one person costs 12 euro . The slots for the private lessons are booked with the student, so to suit your personal timetable . They are available in morning and evenings.

New Belly Dance Course for Beginners – Intermediate – Swieqi Malta

New Belly Dance course starting on November 30th 2010  by Artemocion Belly Dance Malta. This will be the last new course for the year 2010 . Classes will of course continue in the new year in all our locations: Mellieha St.Julians and Swieqi . Workshops in Sliema and Mellieha.

The new course:

Title:  Cabaret Belly Dance style  & use of veil.

Description: A course indicated for the beginner students to take them to an intermediate level by teaching them professional belly dance technique and movements used in Classical Egyptian Belly Dance style .  The programme will also include learning how to use the veil and a cabaret style dance ( using the Classical Egyptian techniques learned) will be thought towards the end of the course .

Day : Tuesday ( starting on the 30th of November 2010)

Time: 8pm -9pm first lesson to be there at 7.30-45pm for registration. Those that do not register cannot attend to the classes. However if you missed the first lesson ( or two) contact us on scorpian.turner@yahoo.com to see if you can still join. Class size is limited so inform us before coming to the class.

Location: Garden View Swieqi , 7 min  walk from St.Julians Bus stop.

Everyone is welcome! This is a one time opportunity , for all belly dancers and belly dance lovers of Malta . The workshop will be held at the ARTEMOCION DANCE & LEISURE STUDIO , Mellieha. For those that do not have transport and are not so familiar with the bus system of Malta , please send a request for transport and we will organize transport  from main locations in Malta (st.Julians area) .  Transport will cost less than 4euro depending on the number of people . Transport will take you directly to the Artemocion studio and bring you back to st.Julians when the workshop is finished.  

The workshop will be given by Abu Alaah Lelah on all days , with the particpation and direction  also of Professional Belly Dance Corinne Turner – Principal of Artemocion Dance studio and top belly dancer in Malta .  Students from other academic dance subjects are also invited – since one of the workshops is specifically aimed for beginners . Lessons will be held in English and the music will be made availble during the workshop.

CORINNE TURNER

CORINNE TURNER –

Corinne Turner is the founder of Artemocion Dance studio . At present she is the Principal of Artemocion but also teaches Jazz , hiphop , Belly Dance & Maltese folklore and performs regularly in shows all over the island and also over seas.

The Dancing Experience :

Corinne Turner took her first ballet class when she was only 3 years old and since then never stopped dancing ! Corinne continued taking ballet lessons until much later at Alison’s White studio however at the age of 7 she wanted to do something more modern in which she could move more ! So , she joined Msida Dance Centre under the direction of Alicia Joy, whom we all miss very much. At Msida Dance Centre together with excellent teachers such as Stephen Kid Corinne explored Latin but focused mainly on Jazz  – and she fell in love for the first time with this Dance style!  In fact Corinne’s first television appearance was when she was only 8 years old on Antonella Vassallo’s programme “HADD WARA HADD” Few years after at the age of 13 Corinne joined a Jazz & Cabaret group called RIMOA – and they performed regularly in hotels and shows .

At the age of 13 , Corinne together with the Rimoa Group was invited to Tunisia to perform in a variety show at PALM MARINA HOTEL ( 5*) . The Tunisians were very please with the European dancing including contemporary , Jazz and Musical pieces such as dances from the musical NOTRE DAME DE PARIS in which Corinne played the part of Esmeralda the gypsy girl. From this show , Fatima Hazar noticed Corinne and told her that she could be a great belly dancer, however Corinne did not even know what belly dance was all about !  From then a long lasting collaboration began and since then  Corinne has been travelling to Tunisia almost for all Summers for many years. At the first summer spent in Tunisia , On her return to Malta in 2001 , Corinne performed her first belly dance show in Malta , pioneering this new style into the Maltese Islands.

With Fatima , Corinne has studied Classical Egyptian and Modern Arabic Belly Dancing , infact Fatima herself has a Tunisian Father and Egyptian mother . At the age of 17  Corinne began also taking interest in other belly dance styles such as : Gypsy fusions and ATS – Tribal Belly Dance . By this time Corinne had learned proper Arabic Technique for belly dance and was doing not only shows all over the island and on Telvision but also began her travels in Europe to learn other styles of belly dance but also to perform . By the age of 18 Corinne had already performed in Spain , Germany , Austria, France and Switzerland , and has performed every summer in SOUSSE FEST . The appearances of Corinne in Tunisia became more and more frequent infact they nicknamed “al Maltiyya” ( the Maltese one) .

The belly dance career blossomed and Corinne began giving her own classes in Mellieha , Naxxar and Sliema however she also joined The dance Workshop – directed by Therese Lungaro to continue studying Jazz with Claire Cassola. Later she  joined the “BALLET SCHOOL” with Brigette Gauci Borda and continued Jazz lessons with Jesmond (jes) and ballet lessons in the Ceccheti system.

Corinne Opened her own school : ARTEMOCION STUDIO . She has been already teaching in several locations so the school was already set up earlier however now she was equipped with a professional studio , in fact it is one of the registered  centres for Royal Academy of Dance Examinations in Malta.

By this time Corinne has made various television appearances including :

Monalisa 2004  ( one tv) , Otello 2005 ( One tv) , Xarabank 2006 (  Tvm) , Show time 2006 ( Tvm) , Celebrity Sundays 2008 ( One tv) , Euro Show box 2009 ( Tvm) , Allegria 2009 ( One tv) , Singled out 2009 ( One tv) , Singled out 2010 ( One tv) , Sessi 2010 ( Educ 22) .

Corinne is also invited in all the major events in Malta such as Carnevale de Venezia, Arabian nights , Lejlet Lapsi , Notte Bianca , Iljieli Melliehin , Indipendenza and many others . in 2008 Corinne  has also been chosen to be part of the main dance team in an Indian Movie: Vinthaaiandi Varuvaya which was a great success in India .  The videos of the dances can also be found on You tube and also in music channels since the song Hosanna  has become a great hit in India , This song was written by A.Rahman who also wrote “JAI HO”.

In 2010 , Corinne completed her Degree B.A (Hons) in Arabic and began working on her Masters which will also involve a study of Arabic pop music to take a multi-facate study of the Arab world  . Corinne also travelled in Syria for Summer 2010 to take further studies of Arabic language and dance. On her return to Malta , Corinne gave a variety of great performances at the Mellieha nights 2010 “iljieli Melliehin” organized by the Local Council of Mellieha and the Mayor Robert Cutajar. In the same year , Corinne has graduated from her B.A (Hons) in Arabic and began her reseach study for a Masters within the same field but this time including study withing the music sector in the Arab world. And altough focusing on her studies is important, we also have seen alot of Corinne Turner this year on TV programmes and other media, infact she was also the choreographer for the Maltese model representing Malta in 2010 for the Miss world beauty pagent.  Corinne has also featured as Miss January 2011 in the calendar of NF PRODUCTIONS which goes under the name “the islands guys and girls” and here is the shot chosen for this artistic calendar which will be available for purchase as from December 2010 by NF production studio.

COURSE : Tribal Belly Dance vs Folkloric “sayidi” Belly Dance  – ATS wa Raqs Sharqi Shaabi : Saaidi

DAY : Thursday

TIME: 8.15pm

COURSE DESCRIPTION : This course will be a split-course consisting of 5 session of Tribal Belly Dance ( ATS) and 5 sessions of Egyptian Folkloric style known as Sayidi . This course is aimed at learning 2 very distinct styles and exploring the 2 varieties : a modern variety with heavy western influence as opposed to a traditional variety which was born and developed in Egypt.  This course is for those students that have completed : classical Egyptian 1 and all intermediate levels.

MELLIEHA

COURSE: Classical Egyptian 1 for Beginners     – Raqs Sharqi Masri

DAY : Monday

TIME: 5PM

FEE: 50 EURO FOR 10 sessions , if you miss a lesson it will be replaced in one of our bellydance classes available at the locations mentioned above.

COURSE DESCRIPTION : In this course we will be covering all the basic movements of Belly Dancing including Arabic Technique of isolations , main postures and movements.  Classical Egyptian Belly Dance is the best way to begin your belly dancing career and experience since it provides the basis for other forms of Belly Dance. COURSE DESCRIPTION : A course intended for intermediate students to perfection their Arabic Belly Dance technique and applying the movements in a context by putting it in musical compositions of various styles: Traditional Tabla style , Folkloric ensembles but also Modern Arabic Music. These choreographies are meant to 1: put the theories intro practice by putting the technique in choreographies to explore the styles of Arabic Belly Dance in their vast variety 2- Use these choreographies for shows to give our students a good exposure : a crucial matter to become a REAL BELLY DANCER !

Corinne Turner is the creator of Artemocion .
